What you need to make this recipe
- Prawns– Fresh prawns are used in this recipe. Small-sized prawns taste better in this dish compared to the large-sized ones.
- Onion & Tomato– Along with the prawns, onions and tomatoes are the main ingredients of this dish. They form the flavourful base of the prawn chilli fry.
- Capsicum– Green capsicum is used to give some texture & bright colour to the dish.
- Ginger, Garlic and green chillies- Ginger, garlic and chilli in any form can be used in this recipe; they bring spice and aroma to the dish. I prefer finely chopped ginger and garlic, and slit green chillies for this recipe of chilli fry.
- Spices- To season this dish, everyday spices like garam masala, red chilli and turmeric powder are used.
- Lemon juice– Using either lemon juice adds a nice tang and brightens the dish.
How to make Goan Prawn Chilli
Marinate Prawns with salt, lemon juice and turmeric powder for 10 minutes.
Heat oil in a pan. Add the sliced onions. Fry for 2-3 minutes until translucent. Add in chopped ginger, garlic and slit green chillies. Sauté until the raw aroma of ginger garlic disappears.
Once the onions are caramelised, add in the tomatoes. Fry for 2-3 mins. Don’t let the tomatoes go too mushy. Add in the marinated prawns and adjust the salt according to your taste. Add a little water and let it cook over a medium flame.
Add the red chilli powder and turmeric powder. Continue to stir-fry on a medium to high flame until the prawns are almost cooked.
Add the garam masala. Turn off the flame. Garnish with fresh coriander. Enjoy!
